Grammar Lesson: State of Being

A state-of-being verb identifies

who or what something

is

was 

or will be.

It links

the subject with information

about it so as to prevent

any illusions or

misconceptions, 

as in the 

statements that remind

me repeatedly

I am weak

I am ugly

I am useless

I am afraid

I am worthless

I am not enough.

Lucky for me my Jesus

told me who 

He is 

and how that can change

everything

if I choose to be

in Him.

I am 

starving

but

He is 

Bread of Life

so I can be

filled.

I am 

wandering in the dark

but

He is

Light of the World

so I can be

found.

I am 

shut out, turned away

but

He is

Door

so I can be

welcomed in.

I am 

helpless alone

but 

He is

Shepherd

so I can be

held and protected. 

I am 

dead

but He is

Resurrection and Life

so I can be

raised up.

I am 

ignorant, lost, afraid

but 

He is

Way, Truth, Life

so I can be 

led, taught, answered.

I am 

cut off

but He is

Vine

so I can be

nourished, connected.

I am 

many things

but who I 

choose to 

be 

depends on

what

or 

who

I link to.

  4. I can make that which I do
    alter what I’m gonna be
    when I stop and think it through
    and then choose to take a knee
    to the Dude who bought my soul,
    ransomed it with His own pain
    to rescue me and make me whole,
    that I’d have the chance again
    to do it right and thus reverse
    what ol’ Adam threw away,
    put kibosh on Eden’s curse
    to see sunrise on a new day
    where the Light goes on and on
    forever from a holy dawn.
